Sire Martino Alonso Kidnapped In Italy

Monday, 9th November 2009

Italian-based sire Martino Alonso (Marju-Cheerful Note, by Cure The Blues) has been “kidnapped from his box at the Siba Stud at Antezzate near Brescia,” reported racingpost.com. Kidnapping “is a running strand of Italian life but, as far as the racing industry is concerned, it has mainly affected leading trotters in recent years. Like them, Martino Alonso has presumably been taken for ransom.” Martino Alonso (bred by Godolphin Management in Ireland in 1994) raced for Scuderia Siba & recorded 9 wins from 33 starts (plus 2 Gr1-placings). This season, he was the leading sire of 2YOs in Italy to mid-October & 4th on the leading sires list. Martino Alonso stands for €7,000 (A$11,200) & his 5-time Gr1-winning son Ramonti is now a Darley sire based at Ireland’s Kildangan Stud.
