Sterling Prince Wins Queen Elizabeth Stakes

NZ Longspring Stud stallion Colombia (Zabeel-Eight Carat, by Pieces Of Eight) added a group success when 6YO gelding Sterling Prince (Colombia-Sterling Princess, by One Pound Sterling) scored a 2-lengths victory in the $250,000 Gr3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) at Flemington. Sterling Prince (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Wayne Hillis) defeated 5YO gelding Crossthestart (Cape Cross-Startling Lady, by Gold And Ivory) & 4YO gelding Naval Escort (Montjeu-Valley Court, by Pompeii Court). Sterling Prince took his record to 5 wins & 14 placings (including last start’s Gr3 Geelong Cup over 2406m on October 21, September’s NZ Gr1 Windsor Park Plate over 1600m at Hastings & August’s Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m at Hastings, plus 2008’s Gr1 Easter Handicap over 1600m at Ellerslie, Gr2 Coupland's Bakeries Mile over 1600m at Riccarton Park, Gr2 Japan-NZ International Trophy over 1600m at Tauranga, Gr2 Rich Hill Mile over 1600m at Ellerslie & Listed Anniversary Handicap over 1600m at Trentham) from 28 starts for $402,525 earnings.
