Aust-Breds Win 5 Of 7 At China Racing Festival

Tuesday, 10th November 2009

In China, Australian-bred horses won 5 of the weekend’s 7 races at one of that country’s most important thoroughbred race meetings, the annual International Racing Festival conducted by the China Equestrian Association in Wuhan (a city of 9 million situated between Hong Kong & Beijing). The Aust-breds winners (from established studs including Arrowfield, Stratheden & Wood Nook Farm) scored over distances from 1000m-5000m & from 2YO to Open class. Aushorse Marketing chief executive Peter McGauran noted: “It was competitive & highly professional racing in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 6,000 cheering spectators.” The Wuhan racecourse (among Asia's newest & largest) boasts a 7-storey-high, 200m-long grandstand & state-of-the-art IT & McGauran added: “China is a complex & largely unpredictable market in the early stages of its development. However it's important Australia remains engaged & supportive for the long term. We want to build a lasting partnership, based on mutual benefit & respect with racehorse owners & breeders in China, as well as racing authorities.”
