South Africa 2YOs: $300k Aust-Bred Galileo Filly

Tuesday, 10th November 2009

Trainer Mike de Kock (acting for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum) paid top price of R2.1 million (A$300,000) for an Australian-bred filly by former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (out of unraced 12-year-old Australian-bred Danehill mare Tramore) during the 1-day Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Sale at the South African Thoroughbred Breeders Association sales complex at Gosforth Park. The filly (consigned by Mick Goss’s Summerhill Stud) is already named Uthawini & de Kock commented: “She has everything; pedigree, looks & conformation. Galileo stands at something like €300,000 (A$480,000) which shows you that this can be considered a bargain.” (Galileo’s service fee at Ireland’s County Tipperary-based Coolmore Stud was officially listed as “private” in both 2009 & 2008, after standing for €150,000 in 2007.)
