Lucky Secret Aimed at NZ Gr1 Telegraph In January
Meanwhile trainer Tony Vasil revealed 6YO gelding Lucky Secret (Rubiton-Won't Tell, by Rory's Jester) who set a new track record (55.97sec) in winning October’s Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield “could head overseas next year” reported The Herald-Sun. Vasil “is considering taking Lucky Secret (who runs in Saturday's weight-for-age Listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes over 1300m at Sandown) to New Zealand for the Gr1 Telegraph Handicap (1200m) at Trentham in Wellington on January 23; & Vasil is also considering the weight-for-age Gr1 Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ellerslie 3 weeks earlier (January 1). Vasil confirmed: “I'd love to take him to Dubai (March's World Cup meeting) considering the sprint race is now on the turf & I'd love to take him to England for the Gr1 King's Stand (at Royal Ascot in June). I know you have to show something for them to invite you, but maybe breaking a track record at Caulfield may be enough to influence people.” Lucky Secret (a $220,000 yearling at the 2005 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) currently boasts 13 wins (also including September's Listed Starlight Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill & January's Gr2 Carlyon Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley, plus 2008's Gr2 Schweppes Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley & 2007's Listed Sir John Monash Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield) & 4 placings (including February's Gr1 Oakleigh Plate over 1100m at Caulfield & January's Gr3 Rubiton Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield, plus 2008's Gr2 Schillaci Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield & Gr3 McEwen Stakes over 1000m at Moonee Valley) from 21 starts for $889,650 earnings.
