US Gr1 Star Zensational Retired To Hill 'N' Dale

Thursday, 12th November 2009

Also in the US, owner Ahmed Zayat announced this season's triple Gr1-winning 3YO Zensational (Unbridled's Song-Joke, by Phone Trick) has been retired to Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Kentucky where he will stand in 2010 for US$25,000. Zensational (a US$20,000 yearling at the 2007 Keeneland September Sale & later a US$700,000 2YO at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Florida February Sale) defeated older rivals in September's Gr1 Pat O'Brien Stakes (7 furlongs) at Del Mar, August's Gr1 Bing Crosby Handicap (6 furlongs) at Del Mar & July's Gr1 Triple Bend Handicap (7 furlongs) at Hollywood Park. Overall Zensational recorded 5 wins & a runner-up from 8 starts for US$609,300 earnings. Leading trainer Bob Baffert declared: “He’s incredible. He’s a beast. He’s 1 of the 3 best horses I’ve ever trained, he’s one of the few you get in a lifetime. He is as fast, as powerful & as good-looking as any horse you will ever see. He breezed faster than really good horses run.” And owner Ahmed Zayat noted: “Having already won 3 Gr1 races, we feel he will be more valuable at stud. We are committing a majority of our best mares to Zensational, including the dam of multiple Gr1-winner & Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof the Nile.”
