Queen Spumante Wins Japan Gr1 QEII Cup

In Japan yesterday, former Hollylodge Thoroughbreds & NZ Rich Hill Stud shuttler & 2001 Japanese Horse-Of-The-Year Jungle Pocket (Tony Bin-Dance Charmer, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph when 5YO mare Queen Spumante (Jungle Pocket-Sembon Zakura, by Sakura Yutaka O) scored a front-running 1.5-lengths victory in the ¥192.7 million (A$2.45m) Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup (2200m) for fillies & mares at Kyoto. Queen Spumante (ridden by Hiroyasu Tanaka for trainer Shigeyuki Kojima) defeated 6YO mare T M Precure (Paradise Creek-Feriado, by Stately Don) & 3YO filly Buena Vista (Special Week-Biwa Heidi, by Caerleon). Queen Spumante took her record to 6 wins from 21 starts for ¥173.4 million (A$2.2m) earnings.
