Zipping Wins Sandown Classic

Monday, 16th November 2009

On the Australian track, ill-fated former Coolmore shuttler & multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added a group success when 8YO gelding Zipping (Danehill-Social Scene, by Grand Lodge) scored by a short-neck in the $350,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Sandown Classic (2400m) at Sandown Hillside in Melbourne to win this race for the 3rd successive year. Zipping (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Robert Hickmott) defeated 4YO mare Purple (Commands-Lady Viola, by Zabeel) & 7YO gelding Master O’Reilly (O'Reilly-Without Remorse, by Bakharoff). Zipping (a $190,000 yearling at the 2003 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 13 wins (also including 2006's Gr2 Moonee Valley Cup over 2500m & Listed Naturalism Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield, plus 2005's Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Plate over 1800m at Flemington) & 9 placings (including last start’s Gr1 W.S.Cox Plate over 2040m at Moonee Valley on October 24, plus 2008’s Gr1 Cox Plate & Gr1 Patinack Farm Turnbull Stakes over 2000m at Flemington, as well as 2007's Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m at Flemington & Gr2 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m at Flemington, in addition to 2006's Gr2 Craiglee Stakes over 1600m at Flemington) from 39 starts for $2,704,695 earnings.
