Goffs Ireland HIT: Average Down 39.4%

Tuesday, 17th November 2009

Overall at the Goffs Horses-In-Training Sale, 114 lots sold for €886,300 (A$1.418m) which was down 10.3% on last year’s 77 sold for €988,600 (A$1.582m). The average of €7,775 (A$12,400) was down 39.4%, but the median of €4,500 (A$) was up 12.5%. The clearance rate also improved, rising from 69% in 2008 to 75% last night. Goffs chief executive Henry Beeby commented: “Our decision to hold the horses-in-training sale in tandem with our November Sale was certainly justified today, with a broad buyer base active from Greece, Italy, Scandinavia, Czech Republic & Belgium, as well as the UK & Ireland, and has received universal praise from our clients. Horses-in-training sales are totally dependent on the entries available each year, which are less consistent than other categories. Today's trade certainly matched last years overall as the median demonstrates & the average has purely fallen due to the lack of 6-figure lots this year.”
