Koko Mambo Wins Gr1 Peru Derby

Wednesday, 18th November 2009

In South America, the colt Koko Mambo (Apprentice-Not For Sale, by Mashhor Dancer) blitzed his rivals by 5.75-lengths in Peru’s Gr1 Clasico Derby Nacional-Peruvian Derby (2400m) for 3YOs at Hipodromo de Monterrico in Lima. Koko Mambo (ridden by Carlos Javier Herrera for trainer Juan Suarez) defeated fellow colts Bradock (Keseff-Samara, by El Duce) & US-bred Kabu (Buddha-Katzen, by Furiously). Last month, Koko Mambo (whose sire Apprentice was Peru's 2002 champion stallion & whose dam Not for Sale is a half-sister to Peruvian Gr1-winner Westbury) also won Peru’s Gr1 Clasico Ricardo Ortiz De Zevallos (2000m) at Monterrico by 8-lengths & overall now has 4 wins & a runner-up from 10 starts.
