NZB 2YOs: Average Down 0.5% & Median Up 21%

Wednesday, 18th November 2009

Overall at the NZB Ready-To-Run Sale, 175 2YOs sold for NZ$10,511,000 (compared with 247 sold for NZ$14,910,500 last year) at an average NZ$60,063 (less than 0.5% down on last year's NZ$60,366 average). Impressively, the NZ$40,000 median was up 21.2% (last year NZ$33,000) reflecting the depth to the middle market & the 68% clearance rate also finished up on last year (67% in 2008). NZB managing director sales & marketing Petrea Vela commented: “The feeling on the sale grounds was one of a genuinely good sale, with buyers finding it challenging to secure the horses they wanted. As often happens, it got stronger & stronger as the day progressed; but it was a discerning market & buyers were selective about what met their criteria. It's great to have today's results hold up as well as they have against last year's sale, given that the smaller catalogue probably didn't provide quite the depth of selection we've seen in previous years. But the buying bench was very strong & we're thrilled with the level of support this sale received, particularly from our overseas markets in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia & Korea.”
