Bloodstock Agent Billy McDonald Dies In Ireland At 65

Colourful bloodstock agent Billy McDonald died in his sleep at his home in Belfast in Northern Ireland aged 65. McDonald (originally based in Ireland before moving to California) was a close associate of Coolmore principal Robert Sangster, for whom he famously purchased Alleged (dual winner of the Gr1 Arc De Triomphe) as an unraced 2YO-in-training for US$120,000 & Fairy Bridge (dam of Sadler’s Wells). McDonald (a friend of celebrities Frank Sinatra, Pierce Brosnan & Roger Moore) also achieved notoriety as a Rolls Royce dealer in California & trainer John Gosden noted: “He is still in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling the most Rolls Royces in a day.”
