Company Wins Japan Gr1 Mile Championship
In Japan yesterday, 8YO entire Company (Miracle Admire-Brilliant Very, by Northern Taste) continued to rewrite the record books with his 2nd Gr1 triumph in 3 weeks: on November 1 he became the oldest runner in JRA history to claim a Gr1 victory when he equalled the race record (1min 57.2sec) in winning the Gr1 Tenno Sho-Autumn (2000m) at Tokyo in his 4th attempt at the race (he finished 3rd in the 2007 renewal) & yesterday he added a 1.25-lengths victory in the ¥213 million (A$2.7m) Gr1 Mile Championship (1600m) at Kyoto. Company (again ridden by Norihiro Yokoyama for trainer Hidetaka Otonashi) defeated 4YO entire Meiner Falke (Mutafaweq-Bingo Hanako, by Park Regent) & US-bred 4YO mare Sahpresa (Sahm-Sorpresa, by Pleasant Tap). Company took his record to 12 wins (also including both 2009's Gr2 Mainichi Okan & Gr2 Nakayama Kinen, among 5 Gr2s & 2 Gr3s overall) from 35 starts for ¥939.698 million (A$11.962m) earnings. Company “retires from racing as of this race & will begin stud service at Shadai Stallion Station next year,” reported japanracing.jp.
