UK Tatts Yearlings: $523k Galileo Filly

Tuesday, 24th November 2009

In the UK overnight, the Duke of Bedford (a partner in Bloomsbury Stud with his mother Henrietta) out-bid Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff & James Wigan from London Thoroughbred Services to pay top price of 275,000 guineas (A$523,000) for a filly by former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (out of Mark Of Esteem mare Lady Karr) at the 1-day Tattersalls December Yearling Sale at Park Paddocks. The filly (offered for her Australian breeder Paul Makin via Bill & Tara Dwan's The Castlebridge Consignment) is a full-sister to Aidan O'Brien's recent French Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud runner-up Mikhail Glinka & her dam Lady Karr is a full-sister to 2006 Gr1 English Derby winner Sir Percy. The Duke told racingpost.com: “She's going to John Hammond (trainer at Chantilly in France). You can't buy a more exciting page & let's hope she's as good as her brother, who looks a very exciting prospect. My partner in the stud is not best pleased & I suspect in time I'll be looking for another partner!”
