Damien Oliver 1-Month Ephedrine Ban

Wednesday, 25th November 2009

Racing Victoria stewards yesterday suspended leading jockey Damien Oliver for 1 month after a random urine sample taken at Flemington on October 31 tested positive to the banned substance ephedrine. Oliver subsequently released a statement noting he has been taking a “herbal supplement” (believed to be the source of the problem) since the year 2000 without an issue. Oliver added he will be contesting the severity of the penalty, believing it “is highly excessive based on penalties previously imposed in other cases”. The Racing Appeals & Disciplinary Board will hear the appeal at a date to be fixed.
