US Sprinter Cannonball Headed To Aust After HK
HK Jockey Club international racing manager Mark Player confirmed US 4YO gelded sprinter Cannonball (Catienus-No Deadline, by Skywalker) will be “vaccinated on Monday” for Japanese encephalitis in preparation for a planned trip to Australia, after he competes in December’s HK International Sprint. Player said: “The plan is for him to go on to Australia after here & it (vaccination) is required for him to enter there (Australia) so, all in all, it was a wise decision to come (to HK) early. It gives them plenty of time to get over any issues.” At his latest start, Cannonball (who is aiming at February’s Gr1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington) finished 3rd in the US Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (6.5 furlongs on turf) at Santa Anita earlier this month; & in June he finished runner-up in the UK Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot in England. Earlier in his career Cannonball also finished 3rd in both the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (8 furlongs) at Monmouth Park & Gr3 Tropical Park Derby (9 furlongs) at Calder.
