Friday, 27th November 2009

Also in Japan, the JRA announced the 1st ownership registrations “for individuals residing outside Japan” have been completed, with the initial registrants being Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Princess Haya bint Al Hussein, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum & Masatsugu Otani from Singapore. JRA presidential counsellor for foreign affairs Dr Koji Sato commented: “Japan was promoted as the 16th country of the ICS Part I category in 2007. Since then we have made progressive steps to internationalise Japanese racing. We began a new ownership registration system for non-Japanese residents this year & in 2010 all Japanese black-type races will be open to international competition. We are very glad to see the 1st application process for the ownership registration for individuals residing outside of Japan completed safely. We are very happy & honored to welcome Sheikh Mohammed & other important dignitaries to join Japanese racing. Our aspiration is for thoroughbred racing in Japan to grow, together with the support of the racing fans, as a sports entertainment at international level. This is a monumental step for the Japanese racing circle & it shows our commitment to develop racing in Asia & globally.”
