UK Tatts Foals Day-3: $608k Medicean Filly

Monday, 30th November 2009

Niarchos Family racing manager Alan Cooper out-bid Blandford Bloodstock's Tom Goff to pay 320,000 guineas (A$608,000) for a filly by Medicean (out of Hernando mare Alakananda) consigned from Kirsten Rausing’s St Simon Stud. The filly (a half-sister to 2006 Gr1 English Derby runner-up Dragon Dancer) hails from one of Rausing's best families, with the Gr1 winning females Alborada, Albanova, Allegretto, Yesterday & Quarter Moon all featuring in the pedigree. Cooper told racingpost.com: “She's a lovely filly & the Machiavellian (Medicean's sire) on a Hernando mare is our blood. We have the 3-parts brother Ajaan with Henry Cecil & we hope he goes on next year. This A family of Kirsten's is extraordinary & let's hope the filly can run.”
