UK Tatts Foals Day-3: $760k Galileo Colt

Monday, 30th November 2009

In the UK auction ring, Coolmore representative Demi O’Byrne out-bid Kennycourt Stud pin-hooker Eugene McDermott to pay top price of 400,000 guineas (A$760,000) for a colt by former Coolmore shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (out of Dr Fong mare Ask For The Moon) during the 3rd session at the 4-day Tattersalls December Foal Sale at Park Paddocks. The colt (whose dam Ask For The Moon won France’s Gr1 Prix Saint-Alary & is catalogued for this week's Tattersalls December Mare Sale) was consigned from Jockey Hall Stud in Ireland & O’Byrne told racingpost.com: “He was very mature & you could almost put a saddle on him now. He was a lovely strong horse out of a good mare. He'll come back home (to Ballydoyle stables in Ireland) & go into training when the time comes.” And Jacqueline Norris from Jockey Hall Stud (who prepared the foal for James Hanly's Ballyhimikin Stud) declared: “In my 15 years doing this job, he was the most impressive foal I have prepped. He probably had 200 shows before going through the ring & just had everything.”
