Ventura Wins US Gr1 Matriarch Stakes

Prince Khalid Abdullah's US Juddmonte Farms home-bred 5YO mare Ventura (Chester House-Estala, by Be My Guest) scored a 1.75-lengths victory in the US$300,000 Gr1 Matriarch Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Hollywood Park. Ventura (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Humberto Ascanio) defeated front-running Irish-bred 4YO mare Tuscan Evening (Oasis Dream-The Faraway Tree, by Suave Dancer) & fellow 5YO mare Diamondrella (Rock Of Gibraltar-Tap Your Feet, by Dixieland Band). Ventura took her record to 10 wins (also including September’s Canadian Gr1 Woodbine Mile over 8 furlongs in Toronto & February’s Gr1 Santa Monica Handicap over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2008’s Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita, Gr1 Just A Game Stakes over 8 furlongs at Belmont Park & Gr2 Madison Stakes over 7 furlongs at Keeneland, as well as 2007's UK Listed Hyde Stakes over 8 furlongs at Kempton) & 9 placings (including last start’s runner-up in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita on November 7, plus March's Gr1 Frank Kilroe Mile Handicap over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita & April's Gr1 Vinery Madison Stakes over 7 furlongs at Keeneland, as well as 2008’s Canadian Gr1 Woodbine Mile Stakes over 8 furlongs at Woodbine, Gr2 Cashcall Invitational Stakes over 8 furlongs at Hollywood Park & Gr3 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile over 8 furlongs at Churchill Downs) from 21 starts for US$2,580,367 earnings. Ventura is now due to be retired for breeding in 2010.
