SA "Defiant To Push On" With Jumps Racing

Tuesday, 1st December 2009

Amid the on-going brouhaha following Racing Victoria’s decision to stop jumps racing in that state from the end of the 2010 season, “there remains a flicker of hope with South Australia defiant it will push on,” reported The Herald-Sun. Thoroughbred Racing South Australia chief executive Philip Bentley said his state was “committed to jumps racing in season 2010-2011 & beyond” & noted: “This could be a great opportunity for our racing. If Eric Musgrove & Robbie Laing (trainers) wanted to set up here, we would talk to them for sure." Bentley emphasised it was no concern to him that the anti-jumps lobby would now concentrate its efforts on South Australia & declared: “It is our job to defend the industry & support it & if that means we have to put up with protesters, so be it.”
