UK Tatts Breeding Stock Day-1: $1.9m Lahaleeb

Tuesday, 1st December 2009

Jockey John Egan (buying on behalf of an undisclosed client) paid 1 million guineas (A$1.9m) for 3YO filly Lahaleeb (Redback-Flames, by Blushing Flame) consigned from trainer Mick Channon’s West Ilsley Stables. Lahaleeb won Canada’s Gr1 E.P.Taylor Stakes at Woodbine at her most recent start & also boasts victories in the UK G2 Rockfel Stakes & UK Gr3 Fred Darling Stakes, as well as runner-up in the Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas. Egan told racingpost.com: “She's been bought for a man I've known for a long time & she'll certainly go out to Dubai for the (January-March) Carnival. She's a lovely filly & I've watched her through the season. She's competed at the highest level & the distance she won over last time (10 furlongs) is more her trip. There are a lot of races open to her worldwide & we'll have to sit down & cherry pick her targets. She'll definitely be bred from eventually.” Lahaleeb was originally a €40,000 (A$64,000) weanling at the Ireland’s 2006 Goffs November Sale & later a 70,000 guineas (A$133,000) yearling at the 2007 UK Tattersalls October Sale.
