UK Tatts Breeding Stock Day-1: $646k Chaparral Filly To Aust

Tuesday, 1st December 2009

Agent Gary Mudgway (buying on behalf of Peter Carrick’s Victoria-based Lakeview Resources) paid 340,000 guineas (A$646,000) for this season’s Gr2-winning 3YO filly The Miniver Rose (High Chaparral-Bloemfontain, by Cape Cross) consigned from trainer Richard Hannon’s East Everleigh Stables. The Miniver Rose “could become a 2010 Melbourne Cup contender” reported racingpost.com & Mudgeway confirmed: “We are going to aim at the biggest one (Melbourne Cup) & then work our way back. We came up to buy a nice race filly to have a crack at the big races & wanted a filly with substance who would get a bit of ground. We also wanted something that could go on firmer tracks & for us this was the nicest filly in the value range we could bid. Obviously we'd have loved Lush Lashes! High Chaparral was the big plus for us; everyone is very excited by him & to have a Cox Plate (So You Think) & Derby winner (Monaco Consul) in his 1st crop is pretty amazing. I think he is going to be a very, very influential sire & he is doing it in both hemispheres.”
