7-Time Gr1 Star Lido Palace Moves To Northview
In the US, 7-time Gr1-winning 12-year-old stallion & 2001 Chilean Horse-Of-The-Year Lido Palace (Rich Man’s Gold-Sonada, by Quick Decision) has been transferred from Lambholm Stud in Florida to stand the 2010 breeding season at Northview Stallion Station in Pennsylvania for US$3,000. Lido Palace won 4 Gr1 races in Chile on his way to championship honours as a 2YO in 2000 & then Horse-Of-The-Year as a 3YO in 2001 (including Chile’s versions of both the 2000 Guineas & St Leger); John & Jerry Amerman purchased him privately during his 3YO campaign & he subsequently won 5 of 11 starts in 2 seasons in the US (including 3 Gr1 races: 2001 Whitney Handicap, plus the 2001 & 2002 Woodward Stakes). Overall Lido Palace won 11 of 23 starts & earned US$2,705,865. Lido Palace has sired 4 stakes performers, including this year’s star 3YO colt Vineyard Haven (Lido Palace-Princess Aloha, by Aloha Prospector) who bloodhorse.com noted was "purchased privately for a reported US$12 million by Godolphin late last year" & has won both 2008’s Gr1 Champagne Stakes (8 furlongs) at Belmont Park & Gr1 Hopeful Stakes (7 furlongs) at Saratoga, plus 2009’s Gr1 Frank De Francis Memorial Dash (6 furlongs) at Laurel Park against older rivals in October, as well as 1st-across-the-line but relegated by stewards to runner-up (for drifting in the straight) in August’s Gr1 King's Bishop Stakes (7 furlongs) at Saratoga; at his most recent start, Vineyard Haven also finished 3rd (against older rivals) in November’s Gr1 Hill n Dale Cigar Mile (8 furlongs) at Aqueduct to add to 2008’s 3rd in the Gr2 Sanford Stakes (6 furlongs) at Saratoga. Lido Palace has also sired Puerto Rican Gr1-winner Down For Double.
