Ginga Dude Wins NZ Avondale Gold Cup

In New Zealand yesterday, Blue Gum Lodge sire Istidaad (Chief's Crown-Mazzei Mood, by Roberto) added a group success when 6YO gelding Ginga Dude (Istidaad-Clatitude, by Clay Hero) scored a 1-length victory in the NZ$100,000 Gr2 West Brook Winery Avondale Gold Cup (2200m) at Avondale, after finishing runner-up in this same race last year. Ginga Dude (ridden by Michael Walker for trainer Graeme Boyd) defeated 5YO mare Boundless (Van Nistelrooy-Nothing Less, by Star Way) & 6YO mare O’Reilly Rose (O'Reilly-Rose World, by Grosvenor). Ginga Dude took his record to 10 wins (also including 2008’s Listed Rotorua Plate over 1900m at Gate Pa & Gr2 Japan-NZ International Trophy over 1600m at Tauranga) & 8 placings (including November’s Gr3 Nicolas Feuillatte Stakes over 2000m at Ellerslie, October’s Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m at Hastings, September’s Listed Westbury Stud Karaka Classic over 1600m at Pukekohe Park & May’s Gr3 Rotorua Cup over 2200m at Te Aroha, plus 2008’s Gr2 Avondale Gold Cup over 2200m at Avondale & Listed Jim & John Evans Classic over 1600m at Pukekohe) from 29 starts for NZ$595,775 earnings.
