Kenny Says "National Betting Levy" Won't Work
Meanwhile chief executive Michael Kenny from the Racing Industry Consultation Group (which represents racing clubs, breeders, jockeys & trainers) told the Productivity Commission that his group “could not support the Commission’s draft recommendation to establish a national regulator, because a centralised body would not understand the unique pricing & gaming conditions of the state-based races” reported The Australian Financial Review. The Commission has recommended a single uniform levy on the gross revenue of all betting outlets to fund the racing industry. But Kenny said this was “likely to stifle the ability of racing clubs to innovate”.
