UK Tatts Breeding Stock Day-3: $513k Bitooh

Thursday, 3rd December 2009

Outgoing Irish National Stud chief executive John Clarke (acting as bloodstock advisor to the Tsui family’s Sunderland Holding) has been very active during the Tattersalls December Mare Sale acquiring mates for their 6-time Gr1-winner Sea The Stars, who is to stand his initial breeding season at The Aga Khan's Giltown Stud next year. Clarke (accompanied by trainer John Oxx) paid 270,000 guineas (A$513,000) for French maiden-winning 4YO mare Bitooh (Diktat-Sitara, by Salse) consigned by Darley & sold in-foal to former shuttler King’s Best. Bitooh is a half-sister to this year's Gr1 Irish Derby runner-up Golden Sword & from the family of both Gr1 English Oaks winner Alexandrova & Gr1-winner Magical Romance. Bitooh originally sold at Tattersalls as a foal for just 26,000 guineas (A$49,400) & was later resold for 340,000 guineas (A$646,000) as a yearling. Clarke told racingpost.com: “There are various options about where she could go & Mrs Tsui will have a think, but it's certainly possible that she could go to Sea The Stars. I know the mare's family well, as we used to look after the great grandam Soumana at the Irish National Stud for a Swiss client Dieter Hofemeier. We also sold her daughter Souk as a yearling to Luca Cumani, so it's a family I've been watching for years.”
