US Sire Air Forbes Won Euthanased Aged 30
US Gr1-winning stallion Air Forbes Won (Bold Forbes-Bronze Point, by Tobin Bronze) who sired champions Mercedes Won & Yanks Music was euthanased at 30 “because of the infirmities of old age” reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Ohio-bred Air Forbes Won (a US$50,000 yearling at the 1980 Keeneland July Select Sale) had been pensioned since 2000 at Wintergreen Farm in Kentucky (his home for his entire stallion career). On the track, Air Forbes Won (who started favourite but finished 7th in the 1982 Gr1 Kentucky Derby) notched victories in the Gr1 Wood Memorial Stakes & Gr2 Gotham Stakes, as well as runner-up in both the Gr2 Ohio Derby & Gr3 Pennsylvania Derby; he retired with 4 wins & 2 placings from 7 starts. In the breeding barn, his star son Mercedes Won (Canada’s champion 2YO male of 1988) won the US Gr1 Hopeful Stakes, Gr1 Florida Derby & Gr2 Sanford Stakes. And subsequent star daughter Yanks Music won the US Eclipse Award as champion 3YO filly of 1996 after winning the Gr1 Mother Goose Stakes, Gr1 Alabama Stakes, Gr1 Ruffian Handicap & Gr1 Beldame Stakes. Air Forbes Won’s other stars among 49 stakes-winners (from 18 crops) included Air Worthy, Badge, Blew By Em, Shawklit Mint, Siggebo & Through Flight. His progeny earned US$29,480,551.
