Arqana Breeding Stock Day-2: $224k Plata De Ley

Monday, 7th December 2009

In the Deauville sale ring overnight, Sylvain Vidal (acting on behalf of Gerard-Augustin Normand) paid the Day-2 top price of €140,000 (A$224,000) when buying 3YO filly Plata De Ley (Elusive Quality-Highest Standard, by Silver Deputy) privately after she was led out of the ring unsold for the same price. Plata De Ley (consigned by Haras du Mezeray as agent for Mayfair Stud) is the 1st foal from unraced mare Highest Standard “who hails from one of the Niarchos Family's most successful pedigrees, which features Machiavellian, Orpen & Bago,” noted racingpost.com. Vidal confirmed Plata De Ley will go to stud to visit this year's Gr1 Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) winner Le Havre (owned by Normand) in his 1st season next year at Vidal's Haras de la Cauviniere in Normandy. Vidal noted: “Le Havre has around 45 booked to him which includes outside mares. We are keen to support him & have had interest from other parties. I have tried to select young mares that I thought would cross well with his breeding.”
