Monday, 7th December 2009

In New Zealand, Stoney Bridge Stud's Gr1-winning Shadwell shuttle sire Ekraar (Red Ransom-Sacahuista, by Raja Baba) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO mare Ekstreme (Ekraar-Cashcade, by Anziyan) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the NZ$200,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) at Trentham in Wellington. Ekstreme (ridden by Opie Bosson for trainer Bryce Revell) scored by a long-neck from 6YO gelding Veloz (Black Minnaloushe-Dragon Pearl, by Ahonoora) with a further neck to 5YO gelding Fritzy Boy (Brilliance-Fritzy Girl, by Cache Of Gold). Ekstreme (passed-in as a yearling for $15,000 at the NZ Bloodstock Select Sale) took her record to 5 wins (also including March’s Gr3 First Sovereign Trust Lowland Stakes over 2100m at Trentham) & 3 placings (including May’s Gr3 Hidden Dragon Doomben Roses over 2020m) from 20 starts for NZ$255,775 earnings.
