Tuesday, 8th December 2009

Also in the UK, diagnostic pathologists at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket “published the 1st report of equine abortions in England caused by leptospirosis,” noted bloodhorse.com. Although horses in the UK have been exposed to Leptospira organisms, veterinarians there “have not seen a lot of illness caused by the bacterium” explained report co-author Katherine Whitwell & the new report “is the 1st proof that the organism is causing equine abortions in the country”. Whitwell added: “Our understanding is that Leptospira infection is a rare condition in England.
