Trainer Asmussen Sets US Record For Season Wins

Tuesday, 8th December 2009

In North America, “with 25 days to spare, Steve Asmussen topped his own record for trainer wins in a season when Poppin scored at Woodbine in Canada,” reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Notching his 623rd victory in 340 days this year, Asmussen “raised the bar to a new level for the 3rd time. He first set the record in 2004 with 555 wins (which shattered Jack Van Berg’s 28-year-old record of 497 in 1976) & last year, Asmussen outdid himself with 622 wins”. In 2009, Asmussen has more than twice as many wins as any other trainer in North America; Scott Lake ranks second with 297. Asmussen also is on top of the earnings list at US$21,092,207.
