1st Win At 2nd Start for NZ$1.45m Redoute's Colt

Thursday, 10th December 2009

In New Zealand, the highest-priced yearling sold at Karaka in recent years notched his 1st win when Australian-bred 3YO colt Maciano (Redoute’s Choice-Popsy, by Sir Tristram) scored over 1600m at Ellerslie in Auckland yesterday at his 2nd start (following a 3rd on debut) for trainer John Sargent. Regally-bred Maciano (whose dam Popsy won the 1994 Gr1 NZ Derby, plus 4-time Gr1-winning & 3-time Gr1-placed flagship Arrowfield Stud sire Redoute’s Choice is a former champion Australian stallion) was a NZ$1.45 million yearling consigned from Esker Lodge at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale.
