Alverta Wins Just Now Fillies & Mares Handicap

Monday, 14th December 2009

Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Australian champion sire Flying Spur (Danehill-Rolls, by Mr Prospector) added a stakes-success when 6YO mare Alverta (Flying Spur-Grilse, by Rahy) toyed with her opposition in the $75,000 Listed Just Now Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane despite being reluctant to enter the gates. Alverta (ridden by Shane Scriven for trainer Paul Messara) defeated fellow 6YO mares Fuhrnatic (Langfuhr-Tats, by At Talaq) & La Zeel (Zabeel-Kingstonette, by Kingston Rule). Alverta (passed-in as a yearling for $20,000 at the 2005 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) took her record to 6 wins (also including last November’s Listed Remedial Building Brisbane Handicap over 1600m at Eagle Farm & Listed Hawkesbury Guineas over 1200m) & 9 placings (including the Gr3 Panthers Hawkesbury Gold Cup over 1600m, Listed Belle Of The Turf Stakes over 1600m at Gosford & Listed Ascot Handicap over 1300m at Eagle Farm, as well as both the Listed Glasshouse Handicap over 1400m on the Sunshine Coast & Gr1 Tattersall's Winter Stakes over 1400m at Eagle Farm, in addition to the Gr2 Villiers Stakes over 1400m at Randwick & both 2007's Listed Razor Sharp Quality over 1200m at Randwick & Listed Inglis-HTBA Dark Jewel Classic over 1400m at Scone) from 30 starts for $433,325 earnings.
