Daryakana wins Gr1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase

In Hong Kong yesterday, UK-based Lanwades Stud stallion and former champion miler Selkirk (Sharpen Up-Annie Edge, by Nebbiolo) – who has recently come out of retirement to stand the 2010 northern hemisphere season – added a Hong Kong Gr1 triumph when French-bred 3YO filly Daryakana (Selkirk-Daryaba, by Night Shift) scored by a short-head in the HK$14 million (A$1.98 million) Gr1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase (2400m) at Sha Tin. Daryakana (ridden by Gerald Mosse for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre) defeated American-bred 5YO entire Spanish Moon (El Prado-Shining Bright, by Rainbow Quest) & French-bred 7YO gelding Kasbah Bliss (Kahyasi-Marital Bliss, by Double Bliss). US Gr1-winning New Zealand-bred mare Black Mamba (Black Minnaloushe-Sneetch, by Grosvenor) finished last in the field of 13.
