First Southern Hemisphere Winner For Oratorio
Coolmore shuttler Oratorio (Danehill-Mahrah, by Vaguely Noble) sired his 1st southern hemisphere winner when 2YO filly Banchee (Oratorio-Miss Jessie Jay, by Spectacularphantom) won at Ellerslie in New Zealand. A half-sister to Katie Lee (dual Gr1 winner of both the New Zealand 1000 & 2000 Guineas), Banchee won by 2-lengths, and has been nominated by trainer John Sargent for the Karaka Million on January 31 (eve of the NZB Karaka Yearling Sale). Banchee was a NZ$375,000 yearling at the 2009 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka. Not to be confused with Mungrup Stud stallion Oratorio (Stravinsky), Irish-bred Oratorio has had a brilliant start in Europe, siring the quinella (Beethoven & Fencing Master) in the prestigious Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes. Oratorio stood the 2009 season at Coolmore in Australia for $22,000, and is represented by a strong bunch of yearlings at the 2010 sales.
