Hong Kong Sale 2: Average Up 28%
With global bloodstock markets varying in their degree of recovery, the 2009 Hong Kong International Sale showed resilience with the average of HK$3.7 million (A$522,000) up almost 28% over the 2008 average of $HK$2.9 million for a gross of HK$70.4 million (A$9.93 million). Following the sale of 19 horses – the HKJC originally purchased 36 – Hong Kong Jockey Club's executive director of racing William A Nader said: "Owners have just acquired some good-looking prospects for the future and we are delighted that owners have confidence in horses presented for sale by the Club. Demand was very strong and horses were sold right across the price spectrum, again showing that the owners are comfortable with the horses that the club have selected."
