Zabeel Colt For Champion Seachange

Tuesday, 15th December 2009

Dual NZ Horse-Of-The-Year & 7-time Gr1-winning 6YO mare Seachange (Cape Cross-Just Cruising, by Broad Reach) has foaled a colt by Cambridge Stud’s Zabeel at The Oaks Stud last week, reports thoroughbredinternet.com. Originally Seachange's breeding plans were delayed by emergency surgery for colic in October 2008 & Rick Williams (racing manager for Seachange's Queensland owner-breeder Dick Karreman) confirmed: "It will be a late foal, but we'll let her foal down & I'll give her a rest next year.” In 2008 Seachange was rated best 4YO & older mare in the world on turf over 1000-1300m in the World Thoroughbred Rankings (earning a 115 figure for her win in last year's NZ Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m at Trentham). Seachange retired after her Northern Hemisphere campaign with 14 wins (including the Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes over 1600m twice, Gr1 Mudgway Partsworld Stakes over 1400m twice, Gr1 Waikato Draught Sprint over 1400m, Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m, Gr1 NZ Bloodstock 1000 Guineas over 1600m & Australia's Gr3 Mannerism Stakes over 1400m) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes over 1600m, Gr1 Telegraph Handicap over 1200m, Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m, plus Australia's Gr1 Futurity Stakes over 1600m & Gr1 Myer Classic over 1600m) from 28 starts for $1,497,768 earnings.
