Ascot Track Covered To Thwart Big Freeze

Wednesday, 16th December 2009

Bitter weather in England has forced groundstaff at Ascot to deploy “frost covers across the entire track in a bid to defeat the forecast big freeze”, according to racingpost.com. Although conditions are favourable for racing for Friday and Saturday at the word-famous track, the predicted icy conditions “could pose difficulties”. With temperatures dropping to below freezing – as low as minus 5 – on Thursday and Friday night, the situation will be exacerbated by daytime temperatures of only 1 or 2 degrees Celsius, effectively not allowing the track to thaw.
