Charles Town Suspends Scales Clerk & 7 Jocks

In West Virginia, the clerk of scales at Charles Town Races & 7 jockeys "were fined & suspended after an investigation by track management revealed overweight riders were not being reported," revealed thoroughbredtimes.com. Clerk Of scales Michael Garrison "was fined US$1,000 by the stewards & suspended indefinitely"; the 7 jockeys (Alexis Rios-Conde, Tony Maragh, Anthony Mawing, Luis Perez, Larry Reynolds, Jesus Sanchez & Dale Whittaker) "were also fined US$1,000 each & suspended for 30 days". After a "tipster contacted Charles Town management", the track "set up 2 cameras, 1 trained on the scale's digital readout & the other watching the riders get on the scale". (Apr 15)
