Clubs Seek Public Release Of SA Vote-Stacking Report

Friday, 18th December 2009

South Australian Racing Clubs Council chairman John Glatz "has joined the chorus seeking public release of a report into vote-stacking at the South Australian Jockey Club," reported The Advertiser. Sacked SAJC chief executive Steve Ploubidis has alleged Thoroughbred Racing SA chairman Philip Bentley had prior knowledge of "membership stacking" in the lead-up to November's headline-hogging SA board election. Bentley has flatly denied the allegation, but Glatz emphasised public confidence "would be better served by the release of a report into the SAJC by legal firm Lipman Karas". The SARCC (comprising the Oakbank Racing Club & another 24 provincial clubs) is the major shareholder with the SAJC in Thoroughbred Racing SA. Glatz declared: "At the moment there is just so much innuendo & conjecture. Some of what we hear might be true & some won't be; but unless information is released this will just continue. We're reading in the paper what we're led to believe is information straight from the report, but there is no way of telling. It's strongly unsatisfactory that so much is left hanging out there." Meanwhile Bentley "has strongly resisted all calls to publicly release information contained in the report". (Mar 26)
