Perrin Owes $1.6m To Bookmakers

Following this week's shock news that high-profile Gold Coast entrepreneur & thoroughbred enthusiast Matthew Perrin (who built a fortune worth an estimated $150 million in the sharemarket float of surfwear group Billabong) has filed for bankruptcy, The Australian Financial Review revealed this morning that "Perrin owes 20 unsecured creditors $28 million, including $1.62 million to a number of bookmakers around the country". The bookie debts include $800,000 to Con Kafataris, $300,000 to Frank Hudson, $160,000 to Alan Eskander, $150,000 to Mark Read & $140,000 to Matthew Tripp. (Mar 6)
