Racing Post Rates Sea The Stars World's Number One

Friday, 18th December 2009

In England, Racing Post's handicapper Paul Curties has given glamour 3YO colt Sea The Stars (Cape Cross-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) the highest rating in the world - 131 - following his Gr1 Coral-Eclipse victory over the weekend. That figure is "the best achieved in the Group 1 contest since 1989 champion Nashwan, whose 2,000 Guineas-Derby-Eclipse hat-trick Sea The Stars emulated in memorable fashion." At the end of last month, Sea The Stars's value was estimated at £40 million (A$81m), a figure which is possibly now even higher. Trainer John Oxx is reported to favour heading towards the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes on September 5, with the Judmonte Stakes at York his next assignment. Sea The Stars is out of Gr1 Arc heroine Urban Sea whose other progeny include Gr1 winners Galileo, Black Sam Bellamy & My Typhoon. (Jul 7)
