UK Expert Says Large Books Harm Conception Rates

Friday, 18th December 2009

Twink Allen, former head of Britain's Equine Fertility Unit in Newmarket, "has been raising hackles in the breeding establishment for some time with his calls for artificial breeding technologies, such as artificial insemination & embryo transfer, to be introduced in a limited way to thoroughbred breeding" reported racingpost.com. "He is now renewing that call & points out in a letter sent widely to British breeders (over the weekend) there are already numerous artificial technologies (he names 9) used to help conception along". And Allen declares "there is scientific evidence that large books are negatively affecting overall conception rates". (Jun 1)
