1st Winner With 1st Runner For US Freshman Borrego

US multiple Gr1-winning 9YO freshman sire Borrego (El Prado-Sweet As Honey, by Strike The Gold) recorded his 1st winner with his 1st runner when front-running 2YO filly Nina Fever (Borrego-Impact Now, by Major Impact) scored by 8-lengths on debut over 4.5 furlongs on all-weather at Keeneland in Kentucky for trainer Wesley Ward. Nina Fever was the top-selling weanling from her sire's 1st crop when sold for US$40,000 at the 2008 Keeneland November Sale & was subsequently resold for US$32,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Her sire Borrego stands at Wintergreen Stallion Station in Kentucky for US$10,000 & has 68 2YOs in his 1st-crop. In 2005 Borrego became the only horse to win the Gr1 Pacific Classic & Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes in the same year; he also finished runner-up in the 2005 Gr1 Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap, as well as the 2004 Gr1 Arkansas Derby, Gr2 Louisiana Derby & Gr2 Super Derby & overall retired with 5 wins & 8 placings from 20 starts for US $2,052,090 earnings.
