Count Encosta Wins Tulloch Stakes

Tuesday, 6th April 2010

Coolmore-based stallion & Australian Champion Sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a group success (& 65th individual stakes-winner) when Patinack Farm gelding Count Encosta (Encosta De Lago-Sovereign Countess, by Sovereign Red) made it 3 successive wins with a 0.75-length victory in the $150,000 Gr2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) for 3YO colts & geldings at Rosehill. Count Encosta (ridden by Brenton Avdulla for trainer John Thompson) defeated favoured fellow gelding Descarado (High Chaparral-Karamea Lady, by Lord Ballina) & another gelding Maluckyday (Zabeel-Natalie Wood, by Yachtie). Count Encosta (a $325,000 yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) took his record to 3 wins & a runner-up from 7 starts for $159,650 earnings.
