Crystal Lily Wins Gr1 Golden Slipper

Tuesday, 6th April 2010

On the Australian track over the Easter holiday weekend, Widden Stud's Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning freshman stallion Stratum (Redoute's Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) added a juvenile Gr1 triumph (& wrapped-up the Australian 1st Season Sires title) when daughter Crystal Lily (Stratum-Crystal Snip, by Snippets) notched her 3rd successive stakes-win in 5 weeks with a controversial half-length victory over her male rivals in the world's richest juvenile race, the $3.5 million Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) for 2YOs at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. Despite veering towards the outside fence over the final 200m, Crystal Lily (ridden by Brett Prebble for trainers Matt Ellerton & Simon Zahra) defeated the gelding Decision Time (Foreplay-Daunting Thought, by Just Awesome) & fellow filly More Strawberries (More Than Ready-Milva, by Strawberry Road). Crystal Lily (a home-bred for Victorian David Moodie) took her record to 4 wins (also including last start's Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on March 13, plus February's Listed Chairman's Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield & January's Listed Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Preview over 1000m at Caulfield) & 2 placings (including 2009's Listed AGL Renewable Energy Stakes over 1000m at Flemington) from 7 starts for $2,289,250 earnings.
