Evening Jewel Wins US Gr1 Ashland Stakes

Front-running filly Evening Jewel (Northern Afleet-Jewel Of The Night, by Giant's Causeway) held-on to score by a neck in the US$400,000 Gr1 Ashland Stakes (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) for 3YO fillies at Keeneland in Kentucky. Evening Jewel (ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer James Cassidy) defeated fast-finishing It's Tea Time (Dynaformer-Prof Mcgonagall, by Storm Cat) & favourite She Be Wild (Offlee Wild-Trappings, by Seeking The Gold). California-bred Evening Jewel (a US$8,000 yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale) took her record to 3 wins (also including 2009's Listed California Breeders' Champion Stakes over 7 furlongs at Santa Anita) & 4 runners-up (including February's Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita & January's Gr3 Santa Ysabel Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 8 starts for US$410,600 earnings.
