Faint Perfume Wins Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes

Tuesday, 6th April 2010

European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured daughter Faint Perfume (Shamardal-Zona, by Zabeel) snatched victory by a half-neck in the $400,000 Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) for 3YO fillies at Rosehill. Fast-finishing Faint Perfume (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Bart Cummings) defeated Valdemoro (Encosta De Lago-Hveger, by Danehill) & Absolute Faith (Not A Single Doubt-Tender Saint, by St Jovite). Faint Perfume (passed-in for $40,000 & retained to race by Think Big Stud at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney) took her record to 5 wins (also including March's Gr2 Kewney Stakes over 1400m at Flemington, plus 2009's Gr1 Crown Oaks over 2500m at Flemington & Gr2 Salinger Stakes over 2000m at Flemington) & a placing (in 2009's Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield) from 10 starts for $1,372,290 earnings. Meanwhile Think Big Stud has a Pendragon half-brother to Faint Perfume catalogued at this week's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
