Harvey Buys Swiss Ace To Stand At NZ Westbury Stud

Tuesday, 6th April 2010

Leading Australian breeder, Baramul Stud principal & Magic Millions part-owner Gerry Harvey has purchased Gr1-winning 5YO sprinter Swiss Ace (Secret Savings-Rapid Serve, by Carson City) to stand his 1st breeding season this spring at Harvey's Westbury Stud in New Zealand at NZ$10,000+GST. Swiss Ace (an $8,500 weanling at the 2005 Magic Millions National Sale & subsequently a $6,000 yearling at the Brisbane Bonus Yearling Sale) retires with 12 wins (including 2009's Gr1 Oakleigh Plate over 1100m at Caulfield & Gr2 Sir Byrne Hart Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm, plus 2008's Gr2 Sir Byrne Hart Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm, Listed Weetwood Handicap over 1300m at Toowoomba & Listed Chief De Beers Quality over 1110m at Doomben) & 3 placings (in 2009's Gr1 Crown Newmarket Handicap over 1200m at Flemington, plus 2008's Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben & Listed Vo Rogue Plate over 1350m at Doomben) from 20 starts for $952,600 earnings. Harvey enthused: "He's an exciting prospect. During his career Swiss Ace proved himself one of the sprint stars of Australia with 12 wins from 20 starts & he looked to have plenty more in store until he went amiss. And if you look at his pedigree you'd think he was bred to be a stayer - but he was just so brilliant as a sprinter. He's got a great pedigree & he offers New Zealand a complete out-cross - virtually every mare would be able to go to him."
